Proposal for 300 Homes On Land West of Butt Lane

Proposal for 300 Homes On Land West of Butt Lane

A planning application has been submitted to the East Riding Council for outline planning permission for 300 homes on the above site between Snaith and West Cowick. Local Councillor, Caroline Fox, and I are very concerned about this application. Cllr Liz Sargeantson sits on the Planning Committee that will determine any application so can’t express an opinion as that could stop her voting on the application.

As your MP I play no formal role in the planning process, but I share many of the concerns raised with me by local residents. We have welcomed a lot of new homes to Snaith in recent years, but this application is on a larger scale and I am worried about the impact this could have on Snaith and West Cowick.

The overwhelming majority of the site proposed for these homes is outside of the East Riding’s Local Plan and is therefore not on land allocated for housing. This should mean that the applicants will find it much harder to gain permission. My own objection is based on this fact and also on the impact the development would have on the local road network, infrastructure and services such as schools, GPs, etc.

It is vital that as many residents as possible make their views known on this matter. Individual submissions carry much more weight than do names on a petition. To make your views known, please quote application number 19/03018/STOUT in your correspondence and send them in writing to East Riding Council, Planning and Development Management, County Hall, Beverley, HU17 9BA. Please feel free to copy me in on any submissions. You can also email your comments to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

You can also view the application documents via https://newplanningaccess.eastriding.gov.uk/newplanningaccess/ entering the application number above in the search box.

Another developer, Bellway Homes, has also laid out plans for 500 homes on land south of Punton Walk. The Council inform me no planning application has been received but I will keep you updated if this changes.

This is an outline application which means that if it were approved a further detailed planning application would be required. It is vital though that we express our views now on this.
