Yesterday I met with the Prime Minister to discuss financial education in schools after I requested a meeting with him at Prime Minister’s Questions. I have been chairing an Inquiry into Financial Education and the Curriculum which has now produced a report with the backing of Carol Vorderman and Martin Lewis from moneysavingexpert.com.

The meeting with the Prime Minister went very well. He was very supportive of our campaign. The report will now contribute to the National Curriculum Review where the Government will decide whether to include our recommendations in the school curriculum.

It’s very clear from young people and their parents that financial education is both wanted and needed. The Inquiry I chaired came up with a way of implementing financial education by putting the factual elements in Mathematics and the subjective into PSHE. We made several recommendations in the report which you can read in full here.
