Phone Box Latest

I recently highlighted the proposal by BT to remove 14 red phone boxes from our constituency. It turns out that BT are removing thousands of them across the country which is causing concern to many communities. The red phone box is as British as a cup of tea and given the fact that Labour have already taken away many of our village Post Offices, it would be a shame to lose these symbols too.

I know that people don't tend to use pay phones anymore, but it would be such a shame to lose the distinctive red phone boxes from our villages. I was therefore delighted to read in the Telegraph that BT are seriously considering proposals supported by the Conservatives which would allow the local Council or the local community to take over the running of the phone box.

I am doing my bit locally and have made residents in many of our villages aware of the proposals and we are now helping Elsham Parish Council apply for a heritage listing for their village phone box. It would be such a shame to lose the box from the village, as you can see from the photo it is very well cared for.

Cllr Rob Waltham has also applied for the box in Gunness to be listed too. Let's hope that BT take up the proposal!
